Vis, Croatia

Vis is both a town and an island. Until 1989, the island of Vis was off-limits to tourists. A major Croatian Naval Base was located underneath the hills of the island. Since then the island has been popular with both locals and tourists. Regular ferries connect Vis with the rest of Croatia. With its central location in the Adriatic, Vis is about equidistant between the Croatian mainland and Italy.
