Matmata, Tunisia

The village of Matmata in the south of Tunisia attracts a lot of visitors because the troglodyte caves there were used as sets for some of the Star Wars movies, including the bar scene in the original one. But for hundreds of years people have actually lived in caves in Matmata carved out of the sand. We stayed overnight in a hotel that used to be a part of an actual home and we explored the area for a half-day, including a visit to a home still in use today.
