Lourmarin
Grand Lubéron from Lourmarin

The first evening we were introduced to the various members of our group and our tour leader, Alison de Candole, and our tour manager Penny Macnamara. The tour leader, leads us in each days walk. The tour manager, looks after all of the logistical details, including moving the luggage each day.

Our first evening was at a hotel outside of Lourmarin. It was only a few steps from the hotel to a large vineyard. The view across the valley, is the Grand Lubéron.

The mountainous Lubéron region is located midway between the Alps and the Mediterranean. The Parc naturel régional en Lubéron was founded in 1977 as a nature park. The goal of the park is to preserve the natural balance of the region, while recognizing the historic towns and people who still live in the area. The Lubéron is split into le Petit Lubéron to the West and le Grand Lubéron to the East.

Our first morning saw us setting off from Lourmarin to walk in the foothills of the Grand Lubéron. Our walk took us past numerous personal residences. All were well maintained and displayed the soft colors typical of the region.
