October 31, 2011: Continuing to Explore the Royal Chitwin National Park
The second group started the day by being on the elephants at 6:30 am. In the early morning mist, we saw rhinos up close. They are big beasts, but seem hardly bothered at having elephants nearby. We then went down to the river before heading back into the forest. In the forest, we saw all sorts of birds.
After a rest midday, many of us headed back out on the elephants in the afternoon. Their handlers took us back into the forest where we saw mostly birds for wildlife. After dinner we were shown videos that had been made of local tigers and rhinos. Those of our group who saw the tiger yesterday were still talking about it and we got to see the photographs that they took of the tiger.
