July 26, 2010: Mersincik to Knidos
We cope surprisingly well with jet lag. We got to bed by 10:00 PM last night and we all slept in this morning. After a leisurely breakfast we pulled up anchor and headed for Knidos. The wind gods decided to be quiet today so we motored all the way around Deveboynu Bunu (Cape Krio) and into Knidos.
After a late lunch we went ashore to explore. Knidos is home to a lovely 5,000 seat amphitheatre dating from about 200 BC. The ruins included a temple to Aprodite, a sun clock, graveyards, and incredible examples of stone work. There are two bays at Knidos and the ruins looked over both of them.
It was incredibly hot exploring the ruins. The stone reflected back the heat of the day. We went back to Van Kedisi and all had a cooling swim in the clear waters. A leisurely late dinner had us sitting in the cockpit as the sun set over the hills surrounding Knidos.
