Cotswolds Day Five: Winchcombe to Cheltenham

Kerry Leads


The fifth day of our walk saw us leaving the town of Winchcombe and heading through the fields. By now, we were all used to getting up, packing, having breakfast, and heading out. Kerry had a final surprise for us: the remains of a Roman villa.


Roman Villa


The remains that we visited are marked on Ordinance maps, but it seems that few people visit it. The tile is what is left of a house that likely existed sometime in 100 BC -- 100 AD. Even though there was a lot of dirt on the tiles, the intricate pattern was still visible 2,000 years after it was created.
