Ye Olde Kings Head Inn


Across from St. Mary's church is Ye Olde Kings Head Inn. The facade in the picture above might suggest that you can enter the Inn from the main street. After a certain amount of wandering along the facade, we finally concluded that the entrace to the Inn is around the back as can be seen below.

Our walking plan for the day was to stop at Ye Olde Kings Head Inn for lunch, so the lack of an entrace on the main street provided a moment of consternation. The Inn was a nice place to stop for lunch, but it also has a few stories to tell. It is widely believed that the Inn was used by Dickens as inspiration for 'The Maypole' in Barnaby Rudge.
