Provence Day Five: Textures

Lace Curtains

The views in Provence are so spectacular that it is easy to forget how many other things there are to see. These are a few of the textures of Provence that it would be easy to miss during a busy walking tour.

Many of the windows are covered with detailed lace curtains. The designs vary, but as we walked down the narrow streets of the hill-top villages we never failed to see a window with patterned lace curtains.

Timeless Shutter

Not all of the windows in Provence are open. Many are covered with a wooden shutter. All are painted in pleasing colors, that blend with the stone work and the feel of village streets. Shapes can be square or rounded as in the door below.

Opening In the Wall

This gate closes off any glimpse we might have from the street of the building inside. We can only use our imagination to think of the courtyard that may exist just beyond the wooden doors.

A Door Forever

Some of the textures you see look as old as the Lubéron mountains themselves. Imagine how long this hinge has been opening the door to the house just inside?
