July, 2008: Dragonsinger - Part II

Final Checkout of Dragonsinger

False Creek

After checking out Dragonsinger's sailing gear in the afternoon, it was time to check out her anchoring capabilities. Kevin invited his friends Stacy, Sophia, Amy, and Jason to come out for a check out cruise. The windlass control at the bow, used to lower and raise the anchor, has not been working. While it was supposed to be fixed, we hadn't heard that it really was fixed.

The wind had died completely as we motored into False Creek. After passing Granville Island, we found space to anchor. The bow anchor control wasn't working. Kevin and David had to carefully coordinate the release of the anchor. Kevin was on the bow while David was both driving the boat and using the remote anchor control to release the anchor and set it.

Eastern False Creek

It was a beautiful night in False Creek. We had dinner on the boat. Kevin plugged in a cell phone to Dragonsinger's stereo so that we could insure that was working too. We had lots of tunes while goofing around on the boat, while taking in the ambience of False Creek.

Sun setting over Bowen Island

Kevin hung out on the boom for the last time. He's almost twice the size since he last hung out on the boom in the Mediterranean. We left False Creek and as the sun set over Bowen Island we said goodbye to the sailboat that looked after our whole family for two years in the Mediterranean and beyond.
